Welcome to ModVet Consulting

William Shakespeare once said, “Eyes are the window to the soul.” As pet parents, it is also fair to say that our beloved pets are an integral part of our souls. We always want to be sure they get the care they need to live happy lives rooted in love, care, and longevity. Dr. Corbett recognizes how integral our pets are in our lives and that ocular care is essential to their well-being. Dr. Corbett founded ModVet Consulting in 2021, intending to expand the breadth of her teleconsulting services in veterinary ophthalmology, recognizing that only some patients can come for an in-person assessment. Teleconsulting is an excellent option for pets who need to be seen on a more immediate basis or for pet parents who cannot drive to see a specialist. It also allows the service to be accessible to areas where an ophthalmologist may not be nearby . This approach to care still provides for a collaborative effort between the referring veterinarian and Dr. Corbett. The result? A pet with a treatment plan who is well on their way to improved ocular health.

Veterinary Ophthalmology – What Is It About?

A veterinary ophthalmologist is an individual who has taken part in five years of specialized training in their field after obtaining a veterinary degree. After graduation from veterinary school, they then take part in a general internship (one year), a specialty internship (one year), and then a residency program (three years). As you can see, the training they undergo is extensive. These are veterinary professionals who seek to specialize and focus their practice in the field of ophthalmology. A veterinary ophthalmologist is able to treat various conditions such as, but not limited to, glaucoma, cataracts, trauma injuries, degenerative diseases, infectious ailments, and neoplastic disorders.

How Can a Referring Veterinarian Seek a Telehealth Consult?

Most telemedicine consults have a turnaround of one to three days, however an urgent consult can be requested with an expected turnaround time of fewer than six hours. When booking a consult, you will need to upload your patient records, photos, and any videos for Dr. Corbett in order to request the consult.  Dr. Corbett and her team will take it from there! Please keep in mind that this service is only available to referring veterinarians. Pet parents seeking ophthalmology services are encouraged to speak with their regular veterinarian about their interest in these services so that the necessary referrals can be made. If the veterinarian prefers to discuss the case rather than just submitting records/photos, Dr. Corbett can coordinate a time to connect via Zoom to complete the consultation.

Payment – How Does It Work?

After completing all the requirements to facilitate the consult, you will next be asked to remit payment. Using the “Pay Now” option will direct you to a secure web form where you can pay via credit card, Cash App, or Afterpay. If the veterinarian prefers, they can easily forward this payment link directly to the client.

What’s next?

Dr. Corbett will generate a report based on the information she receives and email it to the referring veterinarian as soon as it is complete.
